Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Just received a batch of these today from Ace-Pow. These are the ROAR-Approved Hard Case 2S 7.4v 5000mah 40C lipo batteries for RC cars and trucks. I’ll be using two for my BSD Racing BS809T Land Ripper 2 (Redcat Backdraft 8E), and the rest will be sold on-line and off-line to hobbyists over here. These should get me rather good running times and extended peak performance on my buggy. Gens Ace batteries are reputed for good discharge power curves and true-to-print discharge cycles- something which cannot be said among even popular American-made Lipo race-ready packs. Unfortunately, Ace-Pow just launched their 2S 7.4v 5000mah 50C packs but they were sold out before I could get my hands on them. Nonetheless, these ones are race proven, and Jeff Hoy of BigSquidRC.com has tested them to be a top performance battery brand in his two “Lipo Battery Shoot-Outs”. DT? DT is for “Desert Truck”. No, by no means is a DT any Short Course or “SC” Truck. A DT has a smaller track, and shorter width. You may even mistake this for a 1/12 SC truck. However, Duratrax claims that this is a true 1/10 scale size. It probably just means that Desert Trucks are in reality the smaller cousins to the now-popular Short Course Trucks.

The 2WD kit comes RTR, and the truck is fitted with a Photon 2, 27-turn motor, and a Sprint 2 ESC. The stock radio is a Tactic FM – a little disappointment considering the 2.4Ghz one that goes with all other current Duratrax models.

Finish wise, the truck is decorated with very life-like detail, down to coated side-mirrors and even a spare wheel fitted on the rear – which seems to help land the truck tail-end first during jumps.

While stock equipment includes a NiMh battery, the Evader DT can go as fast as 19 mph, or just over 30 km/h with a 2-cell Lipo. Fairly decent speed for something it’s size.

What’s most impressive however, is how “bash-friendly”, or durable the machine is. It’s smaller size may not allow it to take the double jumps and table-tops as well as its more popular track-bred cousins like the HPI Blitz and the Traxxas Slash, but it certainly can take as much abuse as you might subject it to. The team from Big Squid RC ran a battery of physical tests on the Evader DT, including:

– Repeatedly dropping it from 20 feet

– Running it down a flight of stairs

– Speeding it off the edge of a spectator stand

– Slamming it at full throttle into a roadside kerb

Surprisingly, it held perfectly to all that deliberate abuse. Mind you, all these were done on stock parts. And the shocks were mere nylon composite ones. No breakage, no dents. To watch a video of this abuse, follow the link at the end of this post.
